Veterinary doctors in Bucharest’s Victoriei Square staged a protest Monday to demand that the government respect their consultative input and stop cutting funding for veterinary services. The Veterinary Doctors Association (CMV) says the government adopted OUG 89/2025 without CMV’s required advisory opinion, violating legislation that requires consultation. The CMV also complains that the draft was posted on the Ministry of Finance website a day before adoption, breaching transparency rules. The association cites the absence of an economic impact assessment on SMEs, the potential breach of over 2,400 ongoing concession contracts, and the 50 % cut in subsidies for veterinary units. They warn that the reduction will reduce the attractiveness of public tenders, discourage young veterinarians from rural areas, and lead to staff layoffs. The protest also stresses the state’s duty to safeguard animal health, monitor zoonotic diseases, and provide resources for veterinary activities. The CMV demands that the government restore funding and ensure transparent decision‑making.
