Former USR ministers Claudiu Năsui and Cristina Prună have introduced a bill that would cap the number of public office mandates a politician could hold. The proposal, aimed at curbing career politicians, would apply to all elected positions - from local mayors to members of parliament and the European Parliament - with a differentiated approach for individual offices versus collective bodies. Political scientist George Jiglău praised the idea as a way to bring health to democracy but warned that the rule must be part of broader reforms. Former president Traian Băsescu echoed concerns about the quality of representatives, arguing that Romania needs a smaller, more capable parliamentary class. The bill, still in its early stages, highlights growing frustration with long‑term incumbency in Romanian politics.
