Union Cartel Alfa has asked the Romanian Ombudsman Renate Weber to file a complaint against a government ordinance that will make the first day of medical leave unpaid, starting next week. The measure, part of Prime Minister Bolojan's plan to curb fictitious absences, is said to violate workers' fundamental rights and could force employees to return to work while ill, increasing the risk of infection and reducing social protection. The union warns that the ordinance may undermine workers' health and threatens to bring the issue before the European Commission if the government does not reverse it.
