Dan Negru, a Romanian television presenter, was robbed in the Paris metro by four Romanian children. While he was on a break with his wife, the thieves cut open his bag and took all his belongings, including his ID, phone and money. The children later called him in Romanian and arranged to meet. Negru was surprised to find that nothing was missing; the kids returned his bag, documents, phone and the money they had stolen. In a surprising turn, the children told Negru that they earn between 1,000 and 4,000 euros a day from such thefts in Paris, explaining that a tourist can have at least 500 euros in a wallet, so the job is lucrative. The incident highlights both the personal danger faced by foreigners in Paris and the surprisingly cooperative response of the thieves.
