A 2025 study in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships examined over 500 participants to determine the optimal timing for sending a text after a first date. Researchers led by Lars Teichmann found that messages sent the next morning yielded the highest interest in a second meeting. Texts sent immediately after the date were perceived as impulsive, while those delayed by two days were seen as lacking interest. Women were particularly sensitive to timing, reacting strongly to both well‑timed and poorly timed messages, whereas men’s interest remained relatively stable. The study suggests that waiting until the following morning balances enthusiasm and respect for the other person’s space, maximizing the likelihood of a follow‑up date.
