Seven Greek PAOK supporters travelling to France for an Europa League match were killed in a road accident near Lugoj in Romania's Timiș county, with three others injured. The microbus, carrying ten Greek fans, collided head‑on with a truck while navigating a passing lane. President of PAOK Ivan Savvidis issued an emotional statement of condolence, calling the victims "our children" and pledging support to the families. Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis also expressed shock and offered Greek government and embassy assistance, extending condolences to the victims’ relatives and PAOK. The tragedy occurred just before the scheduled match between Olympique Lyon and PAOK in France. Experts suggested a possible loss of control or driver injury as causes of the crash. The incident has drawn international attention and prompted diplomatic outreach between Greece and Romania.
