Russian drones and missiles struck Ukraine on Monday evening, targeting the cities of Odesa and Kharkiv. At least 23 people were wounded, including children and a pregnant woman, as power outages devastated about 80 % of Kharkiv and caused massive fire damage in Odesa. Ukrainian officials reported that 165 drones were launched, with 135 intercepted by air defence. The attacks also hit energy infrastructure in Mykolaiv and the border region of Lviv, close to Poland. In Odesa, the assault produced intense fires, destroyed dozens of residential buildings, a church, a kindergarten and a high school, and left many people trapped under rubble. Regional governor Oleh Kiper confirmed the injuries and the ongoing risk of further collapse. In Kharkiv, governor Oleh Sinehubov said the strike damaged the city’s electricity grid, leaving widespread outages and injuring two people. He warned of the threat of additional air raids. The attacks on critical infrastructure are seen as an attempt by Russia to disrupt civilian life during the harsh winter.
