Russian drone attacks killed eight people in Ukraine, striking a passenger train in the Kharkiv region and bombing the city of Odesa. A drone strike on a northeast train destroyed two cars and killed five passengers, an incident the Ukrainian government described as terrorism. Later that night, a swarm of 165 Russian drones hit Odesa, killing three civilians and injuring 25, including two children and a pregnant woman. Ukrainian authorities reported that the attacks left 710,000 residents of Kiev without electricity and caused extensive damage to homes, a church, a kindergarten and a school in Odesa. Ukrainian air defence shot down 135 of the drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attacks as brutal and urged increased pressure on Moscow, while energy minister Denis Shmyhal warned of the ongoing winter campaign against Ukrainian infrastructure. Local officials in Kharkiv and Odesa confirmed casualties and destruction.
