Russia has started deploying its new Upyr‑18 drone and the Sarma multiple‑launch rocket system on the front lines of the Ukraine conflict. The Upyr‑18, named for its 45‑centimetre frame, can carry up to 10 kilograms of explosives and reach tens of kilometres, allowing it to destroy fortified positions and also supply frontline units. The Sarma MLRS, with a 120‑km range and six launch tubes, is described by Russian sources as a direct rival to the U.S. HIMARS, intended for rapid “shoot‑and‑run” tactics. Russian media report that the system is currently being tested in operational conditions on the battlefield. The move is part of Russia’s continued effort to upgrade its battlefield capabilities in the war against Ukraine.
