Romania's Premier Ilie Bolojan has publicly stated that he supports a union between Romania and the Republic of Moldova and would vote "yes" if a referendum were held on the matter. Bolojan echoed President Maia Sandu's recent remarks, noting that her stance aligns with her long‑term goal of steering Moldova toward European integration and a road to Romania. He added that in the event of a referendum in Romania, he would vote in favour of union. Former Moldovan Defence Minister Anatol Șalaru, in an interview, said that Sandu’s declarations about a possible union are realistic in the context of the Ukraine war, rising uncertainties about peace, and a shifting U.S. stance on European security. He warned that a union could become the "last resort" for Chișinău if European integration stalls. The comments come amid growing discussions on Moldova’s future alignment with the European Union and its security situation amid the Ukraine conflict.
