Romanian survey shows a split in public opinion on whether the European Union should take on more security responsibilities in the event of an aggression. According to an INSCOP poll, 41.7 % of respondents support the EU expanding its security role, while 43.2 % believe that national governments should retain full control of defence matters. Sociologist Remus Ștefureac said the lack of a clear majority reflects confusion, exacerbated by politicians’ failure to explain Romania’s stance. The findings highlight the broader debate over NATO, EU security policy and national defence.
