Romanian Energy Minister Bogdan Ivan warned that the country experienced a record 17 % rise in gas consumption during the coldest winter in five years. He said that while the price of electricity remains capped at 0.31 lei per kilowatt‑hour until 31 March, the higher consumption will inevitably lead to larger bills for consumers. Ivan added that measures will be taken from 1 April to prevent an accelerated increase in natural gas prices, aiming to protect households from steep cost spikes.
