Romanian radiologist Viviana Niță, 39, was found dead in her Bucharest apartment on 24 January 2026. Police entered the home at the request of a man who claimed to be her ex‑husband and found Niță without vital signs, a note reading “Îmi pare rău” (I’m sorry) beside her body, a bundle on her head secured with a cord, and several prescription pills in the vicinity. The investigation, led by the Bucharest Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Homicide Service, found no signs of forced entry or violence and is awaiting toxicology results to determine the exact cause of death. Niță worked for one of the city’s largest private clinics and had received excellent reviews from patients before her death. Her case has highlighted concerns about depression among medical professionals, with the WHO reporting that one in three doctors suffer from depression or anxiety. The authorities have declared the death and sent the body to the National Institute of Legal Medicine for autopsy.
