Romanian Defence Minister Radu Miruță said on Digi24 that the European SAFE programme contains 21 projects for Romania worth 11.68 billion euros, mainly for infantry fighting vehicles. He warned that state‑owned companies have huge cash reserves but cannot place new orders because of VAT rules, a problem the government has now resolved with a ministerial decree. Miruță described the current industry as a "last train" that can still be used, and said the new projects will bring cutting‑edge technology to the Romanian Army. The minister added that the 21 projects will also cover drones, anti‑aircraft defence, ammunition and patrol ships, and that the national industry will still play a role, though limited.
