In the town of Cenei in Timiș County, Romania, authorities have taken measures following the 13‑year‑old boy’s alleged involvement in a premeditated murder and corpse desecration of another child. The General Directorate for Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) opened a case on 21 January 2026 and has been participating in all hearings since. Because the boy is under 13, he is not criminally liable, so the DGASPC implemented a special protective supervision under Article 59( c) of Law no. 272/2004. The boy’s family remains in a private residence, and the child is not in a residential facility. The DGASPC will evaluate the child medically after a positive drug test and may refer him to psychological, therapeutic or medical rehabilitation programs. Separately, Timiș County Police opened an inquiry into a TikTok account that appeared to post in the boy’s name. Former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader criticised the current penal code, arguing that its quick amendments cannot retroactively apply to past crimes and that the law was adopted without thorough debate.
