Romania has received eight bids to build the final stretch of the A8 motorway linking Târgu Neamț, Iași and Ungheni, including a 5‑km section in the Republic of Moldova. The contract, announced by the National Road Investment Company (CNIR) on Facebook, is financed through the European Union’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) program. CNIR will award extra points to contractors who complete the 2.77‑km Moldovan segment within 18 months. The 15.5‑km Romanian section will include 14 bridges, two tunnels, and two major junctions, with a total cost of 4.7 billion lei and a 46‑month duration (10 months design, 36 months construction). Director General Gabriel Budescu said the project will extend the Unification Motorway beyond the Prut River, strengthening cross‑border links.
