Romania continues to see a strong trend of giving newborns at least two first names. In Iași, the most populated city in the country, roughly 75 % of children born in 2025 have two or more given names, with 99 cases of three names reported. The most common names remain Andrei for boys and Maria for girls, according to local demographic data. Other frequent names for boys include Gabriel, Ștefan, Matei, and Alexandru, while girls most often receive Elena, Ioana, Andreea, or Sofia. The practice of assigning multiple first names has been a consistent pattern in Romania for several decades.
