Romania plans to build a motorway link to Greece through Bulgaria, with feasibility studies underway for a high‑speed road from Bucharest to Giurgiu. Bulgarian authorities are already constructing a motorway to Veliko Tarnovo, which will connect to the existing Bulgarian network. The Romanian National Company for Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) is planning a mixed rail‑road bridge over the Danube and a new expressway from Giurgiu to Bucharest, with a target completion around 2030 for the Ruse‑Veliko Tarnovo section. The project aims to shorten the journey to Greece, creating a continuous highway corridor across the region.
