Deputy Alexandru Muraru, vice‑president of the PNL party, demanded that Defence Minister Radu Miruta issue an apology after Miruta praised former dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu as a patriot. The call followed Miruta’s remarks on TV, where he suggested that Ceaușescu displayed patriotism. Muraru condemned the statement as nostalgic and irresponsible, arguing that it undermines the class’s condemnation of the communist regime. He urged Miruta to publicly distance himself from any form of glorification of the former dictatorship, citing legislation that criminalises the promotion of individuals responsible for genocide. The criticism came after Miruta was questioned by Digi24 about Ceaușescu’s legacy. Muraru warned that such remarks could damage the integrity of the Romanian armed forces and the political establishment.
