Moldovan President Maia Sandu visited Warsaw on 25‑26 January to meet Polish President Karol Nawrocki. She stressed that EU membership is the clearest guarantee of security for Moldova. Sandu noted Poland helped the country quickly exit 100 % dependence on Russian gas, cutting Russian gas purchases to zero and limiting trade with Russia to under 4 %. She warned of systematic Russian interference in Moldovan elections, spending roughly 2 % of Moldova’s GDP on disinformation, cyber attacks and other tactics. The President said Moldova is accelerating reforms and aligning more closely with EU standards, and that the EU enlargement report praised the country’s progress. Sandu will travel to Strasbourg to address the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on 27 January, as Moldova holds the Council of Europe’s Presidency of the Ministers’ Committee until 15 May 2026. Her delegation included Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi and Minister of Culture Cristian Jardan. She will also meet Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Senator Małgorzata Kidawa‑Błonska and Sejm Marshal Wlodzimierz Czarzasty to discuss bilateral cooperation, EU accession and regional security.
