Moldovan former deputy sentenced to eight years for corruption In a decision by the Chișinău court, former member of parliament Constantin Țuțu was given an eight‑year prison sentence and a 450,000‑lei fine for fraud, influence peddling and falsifying statements. The judge also barred him from holding public office for five years and ordered the confiscation of 2,000 euros of proceeds of crime. Țuțu, a close associate of oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, had previously been detained in Greece and was released in September before re‑appearing in the breakaway region of Transnistria. He is also under investigation in Russia for alleged drug‑trafficking. He was absent from the sentencing hearing, and his lawyer Ion Negura said he will appeal. The verdict can be appealed within 15 days.
