Minnesota federal judge Patrick Schiltz has ordered interim ICE director Todd Lyons to testify before the court Friday. The order follows claims that ICE failed to provide detainees a hearing for bail within the time limits set by the judge. Schiltz said the court’s patience had run out after ICE deployed thousands of agents in Minnesota and ignored numerous habeas corpus requests. The judge warned that the hearing could be cancelled if the detainee is released. The order comes amid protests against ICE’s enforcement tactics and after ICE agents killed two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, in Minneapolis this month. The judge was appointed by former Republican president George W. Bush. ICE, part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has not yet commented.
