Massive landslide in Niscemi, Sicily has forced the evacuation of about 1,500 residents and destroyed a whole neighbourhood. Residents are protesting that authorities did not take preventive measures, while police keep order. Schools have been closed and access roads blocked. The regional president visited the site and the Italian government has declared a national state of emergency, allocating 100 million euros to aid the affected area.
