Liquid biopsy speeds up cancer diagnosis in Romania, Dr. Constantin‑Ioan Busuioc says. The minimally invasive technique collects a blood sample in under ten minutes, detects circulating tumor DNA and RNA, and delivers results in about three days - compared with up to a month for traditional tissue biopsies. The test, performed by OncoTeam Diagnostic, part of the MedLife group, can identify driver mutations in 50 genes using next‑generation sequencing. Early detection of molecular changes may allow 43 % of lung‑cancer patients to start targeted therapy sooner, studies show. Dr. Busuioc notes the procedure is as simple as a routine glucose test and carries far fewer risks than surgical biopsies. Liquid biopsy is now recommended for solid tumours such as lung, colorectal, breast, ovarian, prostate, melanoma and for monitoring responses to immuno‑ and targeted therapies.
