Israel Army recovered the remains of Ran Gvili, the last hostage killed in the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023 in Gaza. The operation took place in the Yellow Line area of the Gaza Strip and was announced a day after the Israeli government said a large-scale operation had been carried out in a northern Gaza cemetery. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the recovery as an incredible achievement, saying Israel had promised to bring all its soldiers home. The retrieval of Gvili’s body clears the way for the next stage of the 20‑point ceasefire plan between Israel and Hamas, which includes an international stabilization force, a technocratic Palestinian government and the disarmament of Hamas. To date 20 hostages have survived and the bodies of 27 others have already been returned to Israel. The next phase is expected to be more difficult.
