Illegal logging in the forest near Baile Felix, Bihor County, has prompted a nationwide investigation. Gărzile Forestiere in Oradea identified 14 illegally felled trees, including a large oak, during inspections that began on 26 January. The felled trees were cut by Felidan Foresta SRL, a small company run by a woman employed at a local shoe factory and her husband. The Ministry of Environment, led by Minister Diana Buzoianu, has ordered a thorough audit and threatens to deploy the Bucharest control body if the checks are not carried out professionally. The investigation will determine whether criminal charges will be filed against the company for unlawful deforestation.
