Hubert Thuma, president of Ilfov County Council, criticised Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan for the 2026 state budget plan, demanding that local administrations receive adequate resources to deliver results. Thuma cited a 2017 statement from Bolojan, then mayor of Oradea, that local governments need the necessary funds to operate. He argued that Ilfov, part of the Bucharest‑Ilfov metropolitan area, is financed by an outdated fiscal mechanism that channels a large share of residents' income tax to Bucharest, leaving the county under‑funded for schools, hospitals, roads and waste management. Thuma called for a unified metropolitan budget and urged Prime Minister Bolojan to present a clear allocation plan to PNL leaders before the upcoming meeting at Vila Lac. He also addressed fellow PNL member Ciprian Ciucu, mayor of Bucharest, supporting a metropolitan budget and stressing the need for proportional revenue sharing. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Bolojan has scheduled a meeting with PNL leaders and Finance Minister to discuss the 2026 budget. Sources say Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare may travel to Brussels for discussions on the budget with European leaders.
