Hydrologists have updated the flood forecast for Romania, warning of rapid water surges and local flooding expected through 28 January. The National Institute of Hydrology and Hydrometeorology (I.N.H.G.A.) has issued a Code Orange for rivers in Maramureș, Gorj, Mehedinți and Dolj from 27 January 12:00 to 28 January 12:00, and a Code Yellow covering sections of rivers in Maramureș, Satu Mare, Bistrița‑Năsăud, Hunedoara, Arad, Mureș, Caraș‑Severin, Timiș, Mehedinți, Dolj, Gorj, Vâlcea, Argeș and Olt from 27 January 12:00 to 28 January 24:00. Authorities advise residents to avoid travel near waterways, not cross flooded areas, and to follow local instructions. Precautions for property protection and readiness for potential evacuations are recommended.
