Germany offers 1 million euros reward to anyone who identifies the perpetrators of the January power outage in Berlin. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced the offer at a press conference on Tuesday, urging witnesses to come forward. The outage, caused by an intentional fire at a power plant, left over 100,000 people without electricity and disrupted mobile and internet services until the 7th. The incident exposed vulnerabilities in Germany’s critical infrastructure and highlighted the lack of backup systems. A new law to protect vital infrastructure is expected to be adopted this week, but it has faced criticism for excessive bureaucracy and transparency that could aid attackers. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner praised the reward, calling it a top priority for arresting the attackers. The suspected group, Vulkangruppe, has claimed responsibility for several attacks since 2011, including a 2024 incident at a Tesla factory near Berlin. No suspects have yet been identified.
