France will replace American video‑conferencing services Microsoft Teams and Zoom with its own national platform, Visio, across all government departments by 2027. The move is part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on foreign technology, increase digital sovereignty, and improve security of public communications. Visio, currently in a one‑year testing phase with about 40,000 users, is hosted on the sovereign cloud of French company Outscale, a subsidiary of Dassault Systèmes. Officials say the switch could cut licensing costs and save up to €1 million per year for every 100,000 users. The decision follows recent disruptions to U.S. cloud services and reflects growing European concerns about dependence on U.S. infrastructure.
