Former head of Romania’s Environment Guard, Octavian Berceanu, has outlined a set of measures on the Digi24 platform aimed at stopping illegal logging in the Băile Felix forest and at identifying those who commit such crimes. The proposals come after recent findings of unmarked trees being felled and planted in the forest, an act that violates national forestry regulations. Berceanu urged authorities to increase surveillance, improve documentation of timber permits, and enforce harsher penalties for offenders. He also called for better cooperation between forest guard units and local communities to report suspicious activity. The initiative follows a video report that highlighted 600 trees slated for cutting and the low rate of prosecutions in similar cases.
