Ferry carrying more than 350 passengers sank off the coast of the Philippines near Baluk‑Baluk island in the Basilan province. At least 15 people died, 316 were rescued and 28 others were missing. A coast guard aircraft was dispatched to the scene, and the Philippine Navy and Air Force sent additional support. Rescue efforts are focused around Basilan island, between Zamboanga on Mindanao and Jolo in Sulu. The incident follows a history of ferry disasters in the archipelago, including the 1987 Dona Paz wreck and the 2023 Lady Mary Joy 3 fire on the same route.
