Oradea, Romania - Dr Alexandra Gociu, head of the ATI department at Bihor County Hospital maternity unit, will be tried on 26 February for abusive conduct after repeatedly insulting assistant Cosmina Mihaela Cîmpan. Cîmpan filed a criminal complaint in spring 2023, citing insults such as "you are below the sea level" and "you don't deserve your salary" during caesarean preparations and in the maternity ward. The incidents were recorded on audio and witnessed by colleagues Anca Judea and Felicia Ganea. Prosecutor Georgian Husti initially dropped the case, citing lack of public interest and the doctor's lack of prior offenses, but the Oradea Court rejected the decision, stating the matter involves public interest in workplace relations. Gociu faces up to six months imprisonment and €10,000 in damages. Cîmpan seeks 3,000 lei in material damages and 50,000 lei in moral damages. Gociu has declined to comment.
