Romania's greenhouse growers face steep heating costs as January's cold drives up fresh vegetable prices. A 3,000‑square‑meter greenhouse can cost up to 60,000 lei a month to keep 15 °C inside. Grower Mircea Tatu of Buzău says many have cut planted area to lower costs, but consumers may still see higher prices for salad, onion, carrot and tomato. The cold snap has highlighted the energy burden on the sector and the risk of further price rises for households.
