Coalition leaders in Romania met at the Victoria Palace for several hours, but failed to agree on a package of administrative cuts and economic measures. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan wanted the government to assume responsibility for the planned budgetary reductions on 29 January, but Social Democratic Party members insisted that the cuts be coupled with guarantees of fiscal stimulus for firms and the public. With no consensus reached, the deadline was postponed and the next decision is expected after 1 February. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazar will travel to Brussels next week to discuss the 2026 budget with EU officials, while Bolojan visited President Nicușor Dan at the Cotroceni Palace earlier in the day to talk about the budget and national finances.
