Bucharest mayor Ciprian Ciucu has warned that the city’s debts to the Romanian tax authority (ANAF) for the municipal bus company STB and the public utilities firm Termoenergetica total more than three billion lei, threatening enforcement action that could disrupt public transport services. Ciucu said the debts for STB alone amount to about 1.5‑1.6 billion lei, while those for Termoenergetica have risen to around 1.5 billion lei in 2024. He blamed structural budget problems set by the national coalition, not the previous mayor Nicușor Dan, and said the city’s finances are at risk of a forced sale of buses and trams if the obligations are not met.
