AUR senator Petrișor Peiu on Tuesday accused the Bolojan government of fabricating its 2025 deficit figures, alleging that the state only reports cash payments while hiding billions owed to energy suppliers and delayed medical leave payouts. Peiu said the 7.65% of GDP deficit is a lie, that Romania owes about 9 billion lei in energy debts and has unpaid medical leave for up to two years. He warned that current spending is rising faster than revenue, pushing the country toward a budget collapse that would force reliance on European Union funds. The senator also pointed to 51 billion lei spent on state loan interest in 2025, claiming that the apparent improvement relies on political favors from Brussels.
