Amazon announced a second wave of job cuts, eliminating 16,000 positions worldwide, mainly in the United States and the United Kingdom, after an erroneous email mistakenly informed employees in the US, Canada and Costa Rica that their jobs were already confirmed. Senior Vice‑President Beth Galetti explained the cuts were part of organisational changes to remove bureaucracy and strengthen the company. Employees will have up to 90 days to apply for internal roles in the US, while other countries will have varying timelines. Despite the layoffs, Amazon will continue to hire in strategic areas. The announcement followed a cancelled meeting and a draft email by AWS senior vice‑president Colleen Aubrey, which referred to the layoffs as “Project Dawn.”
